Why Jey Uso dropped the World Heavyweight Championship to Gunther

Gunther defeated Jey Uso to win the World Heavyweight Championship back on the June 9 edition of WWE Raw, thus ending the 51-day reign of Uso. The contest ended when Gunther hit a sleeper hold to make Uso unconscious and claim a second reign as the champion of the Austrian powerhouse.

This not only happened due to in-ring skills but it was also a calculated move by the WWE management. There are reports that the move to have Gunther regain the title was informed by future storyline developments such as a possible high-profile match against Goldberg in Night of Champions event.

Also, character development of Jey Uso is allegedly changing, which can also affect outcome of the match.

A Short Reign with Long-Term Implications

Jey Usos’ quick title run hit hard, even if it only lasted a second, and looked more like a setup play than anything permanent. Beating Gunther at WrestleMania 41 felt huge, yet dropping belt right after turned The Ring General into an even bigger monster, and everyone knows that sets table for new feuds.

Lose the gold, don’t lose the spotlight. Uso still pops crowd like few can, so this one hiccup looks less like a failure and more like a pause in his story. WWE always spins wheel heading to its next payday, and you can bet hell finds fresh angles if not fresher enemies.

His big win, meanwhile, slaps a huge no-quit sign on title. Rumors of him and Goldberg throwing hands have been knocking around for weeks, and now they feel way less like daydreams. The landscape shifted overnight, and every writer backstage has new stacks of index cards to play with come Monday.

Rivalries like Gunther versus Uso don’t fade, they ferment, and fans are already speculating where saga goes next. Whatever unfolds, that fleeting championship moment has scribbled itself into the company’s ledger for good.
